Take-Out Container

From Looney Pyramid Games Wiki

Nick Lamicela discovered in May of 2021 that an 8-ounce clear plastic take-out container makes a good holder for 12 trios. However, they need a supporting piece in the bottom of the container to prop up the tips, or they look like this:

8 oz plastic take-out container with pyramids slightly askew. All it needs is a support in the middle.

A method for constructing such a supporting base was then invented by Bruno Curfs.

This image shows the various steps for constructing a paper cone and re-packing the container. The monochrome set for Homeworlds is shown nicely settled into the container.

His instructions for how to make a paper cone are included here.

Math[edit | edit source]

The diameter of the container is 1 7/8", and the height is 1.5", so a cone that fits the bottom and has the desired height can be cut from a circle of diameter {(1 7/8)^2 + (1.5)^2}^(1/2) = 2.4". Cut to the center and overlap about 3 inch (or use the box to fit the cone, and mark where to tape it).

Instructions[edit | edit source]

I used 2 index cards taped together. It works, but the cone does not support the pyramids too much; at the base there is still 1/2 inch distance, but in the center, the tips of the pyramids are supported. (See pics.) -- As it turns out, the larger circle (R=2.4") was equal to the circumference of a compact disc / DVD / BluRay. Makes it easy 🙂.

Hidden Storage[edit | edit source]

The cone adds a pocket to store dice and other game necessities. Also, I store a dice table for Mini-Homeworlds on another index card. (For Mini-Homeworlds, see Talk:homejinks, where I just updated some talk about the dice distribution).
