Overview[edit | edit source]

Continuum is a game in which two players compete to get their make their trees exchange places.

Materials[edit | edit source]

  • 12 pyramids in 4 colors, 2 trees for each player
  • a playing card deck with some cards removed
  • 4 dice, 2 for each player

Goal[edit | edit source]

Get your two trees to exchange places.

Rules[edit | edit source]

The continuum is the empty space between the 2 trees of pyramids. The cards are shuffle only at the beginning of the game. All the player's cards must be aligned face up in front of the player. At the beginning of the game, all pyramids start as a tree. Only if you have to throw die, the highest dice his for the number of cards you have to draw, and the lowest dice is for the number of cards you have to play . Use the die only if you have no more cards in front of you at the beginning of your turn. You must use the entire value of a card. When there is no more cards in the draw pile, turn back the discard pile so it become the draw pile. You play one card per turn until the last one, then you used the die. You don't have to play all your cards if you completed the transfer of your pyramids both side of the continuum. At any of your turn, you can play one of your opponent's single pyramid and only one per turn, using part or the entire value of a card.

If you cannot play any of your cards, you can discard one of them or pass. If you pass, your opponent can use one of your cards but must play it immediately. Only if you still have cards in front of you, you can draw the top card of the discard pile ( if it is not a queen or a jack) but must play it immediately. You can do it only one time per turn. You cannot use more then one card at a time (except if you throw the die). Your turn is over when you have played all the cards you have to play . You must discard the card you gone play before your move . You can use the same card to move more then one pyramid by splitting the value of that card. (example : if you have a 5, then you can move a 3 pips and a 2 pips).

Value and Moves The value of the pyramids are : Small = 1 , medium = 2 , Large = 3 The Joker have a value between 1 to 5. Before you play it, you must tell what is your choice off his value. The value of the Ace is 1, the King switch place 2 single neighbors pyramids ( 2 pyramids at the border of the continuum are neighbors) , the jack pass the opponent turn, the queen is a blank card who can only be discard, the other cards have their own value between 2 to 5. There must always be 3 of your pyramids both side of the continuum (after the end of your turn). A pyramid move of one space at a time : between 2 pyramids, on the top of a pyramid, at the left or the right of a pyramid. To get a pyramid at the other side of the continuum, you must switch the 2 pyramids who are at the border of the continuum. So you need a card who have the same value then the summa of the 2 pyramids that you gone switch ( if it is, example, a 2 pips and a 1 pip, then you need a card with the value of 3 or more). You cannot jump over another pyramid or over a space between 2 pyramids. You can play, at the same turn, any pyramids who are both side of the continuum. Two pyramids cannot be separated by an empty space. If you move a pyramid, and if that move result in an empty space, you must close the gap by joining the pyramids.
