We have the Martian Theme category now. This one is redundant. Request deletion. - Cerulean 16:07, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)

I understand the need to go through and mention that the categories are redundant, however the purpose for them is that if I'm looking for a game I can go to the Category:Theme page and browse as they look appealing. I'm sure there aren't going to be many games that fit into the Martian Theme, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a theme of any game. It doesn't clutter things up, and adds more options for people to find games they might like, but might not find just by looking at the big list of games. In my mind, the more categories the better. --Tuxhedoh 17:48, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
So you would prefer that pages listed in Category:Martian theme be re-classified into Category:Martian, so that the former may be deleted, right? — Rootbeer (Tom) (U | T | C) 19:06, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. My first thought was to retain the phrase "martian theme" but it works better as a subcategory. - Cerulean 19:57, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
Aha.. I was confused. Yes the two themes are redundant. The category Category:Martian is a sub-category of Category:Theme. I was making an argument to the other comments. --Tuxhedoh 19:40, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
To me, it appears that theme categories were being created arbitrarily. If the intention is to have categories streamline the process of choosing a game, as opposed to the Big List of games, then the list of categories should remain as concise as it can. I do not want to overwhelm people with category choices any more than with game titles, so it doesn't make sense to replace one big list with another. That's my thinking as to why single-game categories should be removed. Once there are multiple games with the same theme, then the category makes sense, both for searching and to show the relationship. - Cerulean 19:54, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
Conversely, there are a few categories that I consider too broad (i.e. Capturing, Abstract), but I do not have any suggestions on how to improve that. Frankly, it's only a petty annoyance to me, rather than a functional one, to see the same category on most of the games. Wouldn't it be cool to have a way to filter the games by mechanic/theme/luck/stashes/etc? I know that's what the SLICK is there for, but maybe we could offer a sortable table here?- Cerulean 19:54, 23 Jun 2005 (GMT)
