Changed Zendo pic

I adjusted the white point, exposure, and gamma to make it brighter and more clear. Look at these side by side for comparison: the old image, the new image. The problem is, the wiki seems to cache the scaled down version of the image, so changing the image doesn't change how it looks on a lot of pages unless you change the size of the scaled down image (that's why I tweaked the size on the main page). I'm not 100% sure that the wiki was doing the caching. Could your browser (or something else along the line) be doing it? I think I'm seeing the new image everywhere (like Main Page/Sandbox), not only where you changed the scale. -- Rootbeer 17:20, 4 May 2005 (GMT)

Could be. Safari has been known to cache too aggressively, although I hit reload several times. Or it could be that the cache cleared after a little while, since I'm also seeing the new image there now. I should have thought to test it in other browsers. — Lambda 17:26, 4 May 2005 (GMT)

There's certainly some caching issue going on. I can't get my most recent changes to Main Page/Picture for week 18 to show up on the Main Page in Safari, even after I quit and restart it. But iCab shows the correct Main Page. Firefox is showing the same page that Safari does. I don't know what iCab is doing differently, but somehow it's getting something from the server that the others aren't.

Changing a template is supposed to immediately change every place it appears, but I wonder whether there may be a little lag time before the server completely purges its internal caches. I'll see whether it's still doing this in a few minutes. -- Rootbeer 13:00, 5 May 2005 (GMT)

Depending on your browser, try hitting shift-reload or ctrl-reload, if you are on a Window's system, that is. (Reload/refresh/whatever browser dependant term is used.) That will force your browser to ignore it's own cacheing. Wiki's are notroious for tricking browsers into thinking there are no changes. -JEEP 17:36, 5 May 2005 (GMT)

In today's news, perhaps another piece of the template-cache puzzle. This isn't documented anywhere (and I've googled for it), but it seems to work here. See what you find. If you see an old (cached) template on a page, add &action=purge to the end of the page's URL. When you load that, the page is rendered with the updated template contents. This technique may also work for cached images, but I can't upload one here to tell. It does work for cached variables on a page: Look at the "not clock" on my Rootbeer/Sandbox and you can use this trick to get it to update. Linking to a category

Is there no way to link to a category? I want to make "I also enjoy other games from Looney Labs" link to the other games category, but it only comes up as in Category:Other Games. What to do?--ManyHills 18:09, 24 May 2005 (GMT)

Spivak Pronouns

Hi Lambda! You had asked me about Spivak pronouns in my web page. At one time I was interested in something called the Atlantis Project, a proposed new country project (called Oceania) to be built on floating platforms in the ocean. The project has been defunct for several years, but its Laws and Constitution use those pronouns which is where I picked up the habit. I have played in a couple of games of Nomic, but not in any of the major ones; one of those was in fact an Icehouse nomic called Nomice, which you would (sadly) need to use the Wayback Machine to read about. -- Chris Goodwin 16:22, 6 August 2007 (EDT)

Interestingly, for 2 players, it doesn't actually matter which rule you use, they result in the same winner/loser. But in multiplayer-games it's important. However, for BTT, there is an obvious Kingmaker problem, and it won't be my favorite multiplayer game. BTT is one of my favorites, since it is a territory control game with some similarities to Go. You gain more points in the areas you control; it allows you to play there while earning more points than if you branched off an opponent's mid. Etc. Cuc (talk) 08:27, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
