Game Components

Provided items include (follow the link and print):

  • Game Board, Cards, and Die

Setup

Assemble the materials. Assembling requires:

  • Print out the materials, and cut the parts out along their borders.
  • Attach the black homes to the corners of the board.
  • Paste the front and back of cards together. Or, print the front and backs on opposite sides of sheets of cardstock.
  • Assemble the die, folding along the edges and pasting or taping adjacent sides together using the tabs. Or, use a regular d20 with this table of values:
 1-4 Star
 5-8 Plus
 9-12 Circle
 13-16 Blue Triangle
 17-20 Red Triangle

Rules

Objective

  • Be the first player to get your medium and small Ice-House piece in the green Safe House center of the game board, as shown in Figure 1. Blue is the winner, as depicted by the red circle.

Materials

  • One game board (Figure 2)
  • One special die (Figure 3)
  • One small and one medium Ice-House piece in the following colors (Figure 4):
       * Red
       * Yellow
       * Green
       * Blue
  • One stack of star cards, plus sign cards, and circle cards (Figure 5)

Set Up

  • One medium and one small piece is placed in the home at the corners of the board. The homes are the black squares at the corners of the board labeled "Home", as shown in Figure 6 by the red circle.

Basic Play

  • The youngest player goes first and then play continues clockwise. This is a four-player game.
  • Players must roll a star to exit the home. If all the player's pieces are at home or the Safe House, rolling anything but a star means they do nothing and pass the die to the next player.
  • Once a star is rolled, the player rolls again to determine which square to move to. The medium piece is moved out of home first, then the small.
  • After rolling for movement, the player moves one of their pyramids on the board to the next square with that symbol on its level. Play goes clockwise around the board following the numerical order of the squares. A piece starting at home considers the corner square next to home as the first square they travel on.
  • After moving a piece, the player carries out the square's action, which is either drawing a card with the matching symbol, or moving that piece to a different level. The action is not done when a star is rolled to exit home.
  • If a player rolls a star while having one piece at home and the other on the board, they may choose to either move the piece on the board to the next star, or use the star to take the other piece out of home, rolling the die again to find its destination.

Cards

  • When a plus sign is rolled a plus sign card is picked up. Plus sign cards are played on the person that picks up the card.
  • When a circle is rolled a circle card is picked up. Circle cards are played on the person to the left.
  • If a star is rolled for movement, the card is played on whomever the dice roller chooses (can be the dice roller also).
  • Once a player gets a card played on them, they must follow its instructions immediately and discard the card.
  • If both of their pieces are on the board, the person getting the card may choose which piece to play the card on.
  • If the player getting a card cannot carry out the action, the card is ignored and discarded.
  • If you land on a plus, circle, or star symbol because an action, you do not draw another card. You only draw if your movement is directly from the die roll.
  • If any card pile is used up, shuffle the discard pile for that type of card to form the new draw pile.
  • If the card action is to move up or down a level, the piece being moved is usually adjacent to 2 or more squares on the neighboring level. The player may choose which of the squares the piece is moved to.
  • A card which says "Advance in one level" can be used to move a piece out of home to the adjacent corner.

Triangles

  • If a triangle is rolled, the piece being moved goes up or down a level, according to the color: blue triangles point up, and red triangles point down.
  • The piece landing on a triangle is moved to the square the triangle is pointing to.
  • If the piece is in the orange level and a dark red triangle is rolled, the piece retreats to home.
  • Once in the light green Safe House level, the piece is safe and cannot be moved.

Stacking

  • If a piece lands on an occupied space, the pieces are stacked. The bottom piece is now pinned and cannot be moved until the piece on top of it is moved.
  • A stack may itself be stacked on, making it 3 or more pieces high.
  • A medium piece cannot pin a small one. If a movement die roll, or a card, forces this to happen, the medium piece must retreat to home. This is shown in Figure 7 by the red circle.

Winning

  • The first player to get both of their pieces in the Safe house wins the game.
