Talk:Pointing

A "bent" pointing ray is one which skims along the playing surface, of course. This probably doesn't need to show the actual pointing ray in any way, although if you think that doctoring your image is a good idea, go for it. The caption will say that the red pyramid is pointing at the yellow one, even though the pointing ray hits the surface before it gets to the yellow one, or something like that. It might be simpler to say that the ray lies in the same plane as the grounded surface of the pyramid. - Cerulean 19:35, 13 May 2005 (GMT)

Cerulean, what if the pyramid is flat but ungrounded? My entry for line of sight uses a slightly different definition that does not include the word "bending". These two pages should probably be edited to match each other. --Eeyore 20:56, 13 May 2005 (GMT)

Zendo's terminology chapter uses the bent ray thing; AFAIK it was the first major game where pointing in three dimensions mattered. The line of sight definition is the same as "pointing straight" except in the case of flat grounded pyramids. -- GregF 21:39, 13 May 2005 (GMT)

After seeing GregF's comment, I'm tempted to add an entry for line of sight along with the other variants on this page. Maybe something like this?

* Pointing in line of sight, in which the pointing ray can bend only at the tip of the pyramid (i.e., when the pyramid's tip touches the playing surface).

I'm not sure that I've gotten the gist of line of sight, so post improved wording if I'm wrong. (Except for trivial fixes, please don't edit my suggestion on the talk page. Edit a copy in your own post. Thanks.) -- Rootbeer 22:24, 13 May 2005 (GMT)
