Shard is an expansion to Gnostica that uses components from the Zodiac-based Trivial-pursuit-ish social game called "Star Encounters". It requires that you're already playing the Star Wheel expansion.

Setup

Lay out your board. Instead of the Zodiac Pyramid, players use a "Shard Collector". Star Encounters comes with four or six (depending on the version) little plastic holders that each hold eight shards in a fashion similar to the Trivial Pursuit pies. Each player needs a Shard Collector that matches their pyramids, or at least closely matches in a way that won't be confusing.

Place the Shard Collector near the board and the shards amongst your pyramid stash.

You can mix and match any little segmented holder things from Star Encounters, Trivial Pursuit or any similar game, so long as you make sure nobody collects more shards than the smallest collector has segments.

Players do not need to choose their starting position until the beginning of their turn.

Gaining Shards

Whenever you use a cups action you gain a shard. Take it from the loose collection and put it in your Shard Collector.

Whenever one of your minions is destroyed you gain a shard. Take it from the loose collection and put it in your Shard Collector.

Using Shards

On your turn

At the point when you would use your Star Wheel power, you may spend a shard for that power to be used from any minion instead of the minion that used the original power. It is still considered a 1-pip action as per the Star Wheel rules.

Return the shard to the loose collection amongst your pyramid stash.

On another player's turn

Whenever one of your minions is attacked you may discard any number of shards to prevent one point of damage per shard. You may not discard more shards than the damage being applied. (Not sure why you'd want to, but you just can't.)

Return the shard(s) to the loose collection amongst your pyramid stash.
