Referee
It's been said before that Icehouse, especially tournament Icehouse, is more like a tabletop sport than a board game. Your game depends heavily on physical dexterity, quick thinking, and decisive action.
The game also involves many judgement calls. Examples:
- Was this piece played before the timer ran out?
- Was that a crash, or just a jiggle?
In important games, the players cannot always be trusted to make correct rulings, as it's difficult to make judgments against your best interests. Rather than force the players to make these decisions, it's best to have a referee handy to make them for you. This judge is not playing in the game, so he or she hopefully can make impartial rulings.
