Game Components

The game One Square at a Time to the Capture is based on the game Snakes and Ladder’s, but has been modified to incorporate the Icehouse Pieces.

Setup

Materials Needed:

  • One set of Treehouse pieces

Provided items include (follow the links and print):

Assemble the materials. Assembling requires:

  • Print out the game board
  • Print and cut out cards
  • If you do not have a regular 6-sided die, cut the dice pattern out, then fold on the lines, making the die.
  • Place the game board on a flat surface
  • Shuffle and place the cards to one side of the game board
  • Place a medium Icehouse piece, on the finish square (color does not matter, this piece will act as the "giant")
  • Each player chooses a small Icehouse pyramid to play with, each of a different color

Rules

The principle of the game is to be the first player to reach the end by moving across the board from square to square and in the end “capturing the giant.” The players will travel the board from the start square to the finish square, advancing by the numbered sequence. Example 1, 2, 3...

To begin playing each player must roll the die and the player with the largest number goes first, then from the first player the players continue clockwise. The dice must be rolled again to show the number of squares that the players may move. Place the small Icehouse piece on the appropriate square. Continue playing. Each player takes a turn.

  • If two or more players should land on the same square, simply share the square and on each player's next turn advance to the advised number of squares.
  • Line: if a player lands at the tip of the line, his or her game piece slides along the line to the square at the end of the lines arrow.
  • Triangle: if a player lands on a square that has a dark shaded triangle printed on the game board the player must pick a card from the card pile and follow the directions on the card.
  • At any point of the game the players should run out of cards, simply shuffle the cards and continue playing.

Complete the game. The first player to Finish square has captured the giant (the medium Icehouse piece) and is now the winner, but the player must have the correct number on the die to land on the Finish square.
