En el helenismo temprano, las novedades arquitectónicas que encontramos se concentran en algunos edificios civiles y monumentos menores como en este caso. La Linterna de Lisí­crates fue levantada en la época de Alejandro (336-323 a. C.) en Atenas como homenaje al ganador de un prestigioso concurso teatral. El trópode se erige sobre una base arquitectónica que destaca por su riqueza decorativa y en la que podemos observar capiteles corintios, orden que normalmente se reserva para el interior de los templos.
