Things You Need

Spore is a game for two players. You need a 5x5 board and two Rainbow or Xeno stashes.

Setup

Two trios each of four different colors are the villagers. Two trios of a fifth color are the invaders. Place the invaders next to the board in the reserves. Set aside a space near the reserves for the dead zone and a space in front of each player to place captured villagers.

Place one invader of any size and all 24 villagers randomly on the board. Choose a player to move first.

The Movement Phase

Players alternate moving invaders starting with the first player. On your turn, you must activate every invader on the board a single time. Activate invaders in size order with pawns going first, then drones, then queens. Invaders must either jump or launch a spore when activated. If an invader can't perform either action, place it in the dead zone. Move invaders in the dead zone to the reserves when the turn ends.

After every invader has been activated, the turn ends and the next player's movement phase begins.

Jumping

Move the activated invader any number of spaces orthogonally in a straight line onto a villager of the same size. Capture that villager. Invaders can jump over empty spaces, villagers, other invaders.

Launching a Spore

Place an invader from the reserves on top of the activated invader. Immediately activate the new invader and perform a jump. This ability can't be used if no invaders are in the reserves or if there is no legal jump for the new invader. Only one spore can be launched each turn.

Winning

If every villager has been captured or it is impossible to capture further villagers, the game ends. Players score points for their captured villagers. You receive 7 points for each multicolored trio, 10 points for each single-colored trio, and a number of points for each other villager equal to its pip count. The player with the most points wins.

Big Board Variant

For a longer and more challenging game, place four trios each of four different colors and a single invader on a 7x7 board. You still use two trios of invaders.
