  • can we add games we find online? ie SLICK, old lists, users external pages? YES, let's gather all the pyramid games we can find, from all the old sites.
  1. should we just be referencing the external page? We can reference it, but it's not ideal to have only a reference to their page, because so often people's sites get taken down. So we should also do our own rendition of the rules on a page we create for that game.
  2. do we need permission to add the content to this wiki? If so; how is this recorded? Talk page? The law is that you cannot copyright the rules to a game, only specific written renditions of game rules. So if the person's rules write-up is copyrighted, we can't copy-and-paste them into a game page here on the wiki. But we can, and should, re-word them and put them on a page representing that game.
We need to ask before using things like images, but there's no harm in adding a page with an infobox and some details. -D
  • What are the standard categories? Looks like Product, Game, User, CategoryThe categories seem to be all over the place. There's a Jargon category, a 2-player category, a 3-player category... I haven't seem them all. They are usable to programmatically gather certain pages into one central page, so even if we introduce another system that groups them, I would let them exist.
  • what are the standard templates? infobox, ? The infobox is the big one -- the one that's supposed to be on each game page. There are a few for the different fonts (Pyramid Love and Cards-and-Dice), and probably some I've never seen. When you say "standard" templates, how are you expecting them to function differently than just any template? Or what are you hoping to do with the ones that we call "standard"?
  • how do we do semantic markup so that pages are included in lists automatically? Is there a list of lists, so can reference it on a page (does it just work with wiki back-links, or is there some db style feature?)This is a question for Dazeysan, because I don't know what you mean at all, I'm afraid.
I'm still trying to figure out all of the Semantic MediaWiki stuff, but it seems like each wiki page can have many values set for it. These values can then be searched and displayed as a simple count/number, or in a table, or even as a link to a CSV file. There are a couple ways to set a value on a page but the simple one is {{#set:Designer=Andy Looney}} This won't be visible when reading the page but will make that page show up in Semantic search results. Note that there is a bug right now where we can't really use the generic search page or the "...further results" links at the bottom of really long lists on some of the Browse Games pages. I have a ticket open with the Miraheze stewards. -D
  • can we add designer pages, so it's easy to see all games a person designed? Or should they be user pages?Designer pages are a wonderful idea. I think User pages are only for users of this Wiki, and some game designers never were/never will be members on the wiki itself. I wonder if there' s way to get a script to pull the names from the Infobox, make it into a link, and presto, a page people can edit?
  • Is page categorisation (ie move) just for admin?I don't think it's just for admins. Does the option show up for you?
  • Is there a page to document/discuss wiki initiatives, ie move all products to product pages; so we can help out, or at least be consistent in our edits. There should be such a page -- or such a way to talk. I would like to have one page for every Looney product related to pyramids simply because so many of the old game rules will reference the product as a shorthand way of listing the materials needed. And having a product page lets us create a distinction between the marketed product and the game itself, which also needs its own page.
I would love to have some sort of central location for this sort of discussion and planning. There is the Looney_Pyramid_Games_Wiki:Community_Portal which looks to have held something like that, is that what your last question was about? -D
  • how are print publications handled? is there a publication category?I don't know if there is an official stance. Can you give me examples of the kind of print publications you mean? Do you mean like PDF sell sheets for the old products, or books like _Playing with Pyramids_, or what?
  • is there a style guide, or other guide for contributors?I have not seen one! What would you want it to outline?
  • when parts of talk pages are clearly out of date, should we clean them up? strikeout to indicate things done, or delete sections? How much do you know about Talk pages? Because I don't know anything about them. It feels like if we delete stuff, we'll be deleting history that might be important, but honestly other than quoting that person's paragraph from 10 years ago and saying "Done!" I don't know how to do this in an organized way.
  • subpages vs namespaces? is this : vs / ? ie Browse Games has / -- what does this do?So subpages are what I've been using lately in trying to make a separation between product pages and game pages. I'm doing that because it makes sense to my brain, and because the slashes have allowed Dazeysan to programmatically create links to certain things in the infobox. Doing it this way (subpages) is not necessarily The Way It Will Always Be. It's just what's working right now. I'm definitely open to new information.
  • Are we using Project, Project Talk, Well, I'm not, because I don't know what those are. I do feel there must be a better way to discuss what should happen with this Wiki other than people's Talk pages. There needs to be a forum structure so people can have their say, upvote/downvote things, and find what others have said in an easy-to-use way. Do you know of such a thing, but built into the Wiki?

Wiki Notes[edit source]

  • Help:Editing
  • namespaces are namespace:page, Talk, User, User talk. Most pages are in the mainspace. Also Template, File,
    • magic words pages inns
  • subpages get automatic breadcrumbs to parent (but parent not in What Links Here). Can be useful for hierarchical info, but can also use Categories. Used for creating archives of old discussion under Talk pages, or scratch pads under user pages.

List with {{Special:PrefixIndex/Help:Subpages/}}

  • Category namespace adds dynamic link to category page, which lists all the pages in that category. Can have subcategories
    • use [[Category:Categoryname]] and [[:Catgory:Categoryname]] to just link to the cat page without adding page link is on to it
    • Categories can themselves belong to categories
    • Special:Categories
    • Special:CategoryTree
    • High level categories - Equipment, Number of Players, Mechanics, Stashes or sets Required (all under Types of Game)
    • magic words for categories; pagesincategory,
  • Templates transcluded?

Game Mechanisms I like[edit source]

  • colour powers
  • board powers (gnostica/Impulse/Ur)
  • melting - when pyramid uses power it reduces in size
  • creation when other pyramids come together (Realm)
  • formula based changes - x+2y=z for colours (Bazaar)
